De-clutter, De-summer and De-stress
5 Tips To A Mess Free House This Winter
There are coats on the couch, hats everywhere but heads, and the entryway is a shoe explosion. Winter may bring elegant snowy landscapes and cozy Holiday cheer, but many of us find our homes overtaken by all the trappings the colder temperatures bring.
Here are 5 easy ways to cut through the clutter this winter
1: Say Goodbye To Summer And Hello To Saving Space

I am sure you dazzled in your summer wardrobe and turned heads in those hats, but now, those pieces are taking up valuable space in your closet. And honestly, when will you be wearing those shorts next anyway?
Instead, store your summer items in garment-safe bins over the colder winter months. Dresses, skirts, shorts, swimwear- anything you won’t be wearing until you see that thermometer rise again. This gives you more space to store your bulkier winter wear, and more space to see your clothing options during these cold winter months.
2: Catch All With Designated Drop Points

We all do it; walk through the door and drop our keys, hats, phones, and gloves in that one particular spot. Stop fighting it. Use it.
Instead of constantly tidying up after yourself, place a bowl, hook or basket in that particular “drop-point” that you already use. This helps you keep your entryway organized, and gives your everyday items a place to exist whilst still looking neat and tidy. It also helps with the inevitable “where did I leave my wallet!?” scramble.
3: Know Yourself, And Your Shoes

Let’s face it, how many pairs of shoes do you actually wear come wintertime? One? Two? I can guarantee it’s not your entire collection.
Combat the entryway shoe disaster by boxing and storing away any shoes you know you’re not going to wear while the snow is still on the ground. Flip flops, kitten heels, converse? Not likely everyday candidates once the snow hits.
The shoes you have left will be your everyday staples. Investing in a simple boot tray will give these friends a place to live, make an elegant statement in your hall, and catch all that pesky snow and ice before it makes its way to your floors.
4: Give Your Blankets A Place To Belong

The snow is coming and the temperatures are dropping, what better way to enjoy it than snuggling up on the couch? Blankets add warmth to your décor and give a room a sense of lived-in charm, but they can quickly look messy when not used right.
Simply rolling or folding your blankets and placing them in a basket or on an accent chair, can turn a messy eyesore into a statement piece. Blankets with contrasting colours look great stacked on a footstool or placed next to your fireplace for rustic chic.
5: Be Porch Prepared

With the risk of sounding like your parents, the snow comes when you least expect it! Don’t wait to be buried in 6 inches of the cold stuff before traipsing out to your shed and finding the old rusty shovel you swore was there last year.
Give those handy helpers pride of place on your porch by hanging shovel hooks, and stock your ice melt below in a discrete bin or nifty dispensing device. This keeps your porch tidy and saves on scrambling after an unexpected snowfall.
So there you have it: 5 ways to keep your house tidy this winter. With a little planning, a conscious de-clutter can maximize your space, and help you find a place for all the extra items this cold weather brings.
Don’t get lost under the weight of multiple mittens and hundreds of hats. Give it a try today, and transform your house back into the cozy home it was designed to be.
